Antigen – Dust & Ashes

The Czech crust scene has a lot of cool bands, but somehow I missed a lot of the names (but that`s because I mostly focused on the grind genre). Anyway, I need to have to fix my own ignorance. Here is a very nice melodic crust punk band from Prague. Dust & Ashes is not a new album (it was released in 2020), but it was released only in vinyl format. Now thanks to Romantic Songs rec and Global Help rec we have a CD version! Hmm, this band used almost all classic attributes of the genre. Starting from the … Continue reading Antigen – Dust & Ashes

Depopulation Department (09.10.22)

Good day! Hope you`re doing well. Let`s start this small talk with your band bio. The band was formed in 2017 when Ana and Luisma, from the Goregrind band HAEMORRHAGE, talked to Jose (who played with them in Haemorrhage for years) to start a Crust/Punk project with the purpose of playing together again. Luisma (with whom I shared the origins of the death metal band AVULSED) we had talked many times about doing something different from what we had done together so he asked me if I wanted to join the band on bass. After Jose left Último Gobierno in … Continue reading Depopulation Department (09.10.22)

Nervegas – Demo

It`s strange but Denmark has not so many extreme bands, especially grindcore or crust-punk. However, some people still gather together and make new bands. Nervegas is a young name from Copenhagen (the heart of this beautiful country). I was lucky to get a debut tape of this band. Guys are playing traditional crust with all old postulates, sound, songwriting, and so on. The visual part of this release is obliviously made in a traditional way. But, I must admit that the nuclear war theme is damn actual right now, unfortunately… This small tape brings me so much joy. Awesome straight … Continue reading Nervegas – Demo

Days of Desolation – Circles

The waiting is over, finally, Belgian crust-grind warriors Days of Desolation released their second full-length! Must admit this work is fucking monumental, the material is more mature and more complicated (mostly in songwriting moments). Same with the cover art! Jasper has done super-powerful work with a strong dark atmosphere and a ton of small nice details! Small spoiler, you will get a poster if you`ll buy that record, hehe. The vinyl has a pleasant sound too, so the pressing plant didn`t fucked up. But let’s switch to a more detailed analysis of this album. First of all, I want to … Continue reading Days of Desolation – Circles

Pilori – Quand Bien Même L’Enfer et le Déluge S’abattraient sur Nous

Today is the beginning of autumn, some people had a melancholy feeling about it, some are sad because the warm time is over, but other people starting to listen to dark and gloomy music. As you may already guess, I picked up exactly that kind of album. “Quand Bien Même L’Enfer et le Déluge S’abattraient sur Nous” is a second full-length of French blackened-crust band Pilori. I already review their previous album, but that was 2 years ago, now guys are back with brand new material! Just look at this LP, it looks fantastic! The main image is gorgeous, with … Continue reading Pilori – Quand Bien Même L’Enfer et le Déluge S’abattraient sur Nous

Arrogänt / Visions Of War

When it comes to the crust genre, you usually remember the UK scene. No joke, that country is an alpha mother of many extreme genres, but other countries have succeeded in such genres too. Today I want to spin a good record from Belgium with two cool Belgian bands. And let me start with newcomers Arrogänt. Arrogänt is a new band, but with serious guys of Travolta, Days of Desolation, Nervous Mothers, Monnier, and Capital Scum. For this session guys prepared 7 crispy songs, all these tracks are full of fantastic live energy and rage. Of course, Arrogänt didn’t make … Continue reading Arrogänt / Visions Of War

Embittered – Infected

Today we`re going to immerse in the history of English crust punk. 32 years ago a couple of guys from Middlesbrough gathered together and created Embittered. I`ll be honest, I never heard of this name, but Thomas of Power It Up rec recommended it to me, so I opened a youtube and started my investigation. A year later he released a full discography of this band in double vinyl format. I got a few old releases of that label and I perfectly know how that guy love to put together a lot of small details. Old punk discographies look so … Continue reading Embittered – Infected

Dark Horse – Trauma-Taught Self-Destruct

Sydney’s hardcore/crust maniacs Dark Horse are back with a brand new album! Trauma-Taught Self-Destruct is their 3d album, and I’m expecting a lot from it. We have here 12 songs wrapped in the nice gloomy cover art. Must say that the music is pretty dark, especially in comparison with the first album. Everything (CDs and vinyl) was released by Grindhead Records (another Australian music maniac). So as you see we have here 100% Australian product, hehe… Actually, I really waited for this album, and what I heard wasn`t that what I expected. I don`t know what the hell happened but … Continue reading Dark Horse – Trauma-Taught Self-Destruct

Ashdöd (29.03.21)

Hi Dani! How are you doing these days? Hope that you and your family are healthy. Hi Alex, thank you for thinking of me for this interview, much appreciated! Everything fine here but trying to keep sane in these strange days. Continuous lockdowns and restrictions here in Spain are turning me a bit mad. Could you share with us a short story about Ashdöd? Everything started one year ago. I made all the music for a new project, a crustcore (or stenchcore as we used to call it back in the days) project. It had to be as a crustcore … Continue reading Ashdöd (29.03.21)

Dødsdømt – 1989 – 2019

Norwegian underground is something unknown to me. For example, Dødsdømt is old crusty hardcore punks from that country. Want to say that this is a very interesting and pleasant discovery. The guys started at the beginning of the 90th but after some years they stopped playing. Only after more than decade guys will reunite, and the new material will be released in 2018. This LP is a collection of all their songs, starting with very old songs and ending with the last recorded song. Also, this vinyl is a part of the punk series by Power It Up rec. For … Continue reading Dødsdømt – 1989 – 2019

Bad Grind Spencer / Mindcollapse

We have talk about a lot, but there will be always some of split/album that you`ve never heard and want to talk about. For today’s review I picked up a dirty and noisy split from two bands from Madrid city. Can’t say that both of these squads are well known outside of their country, but Bad Grind Spencer and Mindcollapse deserve to be shown to grind fans. Please pay a bit attention for this cover. I really like this idea, the designer made fun of stupid celebrities who are wearing underground merchandise… and I agree with him, these fuckers should … Continue reading Bad Grind Spencer / Mindcollapse

Dethrone The Pigs – S/T

We all know Singapore like Grind City, band such as Wormrot, Magnicide and Demisore are a beautiful business card of this island country. But, what about Crust Punk? There aren’t many names are there? Today I want to showcase one interesting, but unknown band from that region. Dethrone The Pigs is a bunch of Punks who started this squad only a few years ago. This self-titled EP is their first record… and they’ve done well. These guys do not play something new and unique; they chose the classic way with society centered lyrics and aggressive music. However that does not … Continue reading Dethrone The Pigs – S/T

Sturmovik – Destination Nowhere (Selfmadegod rec)

Crust band from Poland? Yes! Why not? Sturmovik is a rather young band and this CD is only their first album. But I take my hat off to them, these guys put everything that they had into this release and I felt that during listening. But, for now let`s focus on visual pleasure that is the cover art of this full length. I especially enjoy this piece, the artist has drawn an old plane from WW2 with a bit modern flair but I like it. It looks very handsome with the band logo. And if you open up the booklet, … Continue reading Sturmovik – Destination Nowhere (Selfmadegod rec)
