Thanatopsis – Fidelis Ad Mortem

When I heard that Thanatopsis are back from the hiatus I was really happy. That nasty duo knows how to make good stuff. So “Fidelis Ad Mortem” is their first recorded material since 2012, and we have here 15 minutes of solid and raw goregrind. Can`t say that I was surprised by this cover art… this is a very common approach for this genre, all these human remains and blood, nothing new but on the other side this is a tribute to the genre.

Despite the fact that Thanatopsis is an international project (Brazil/Sweden) music of this squad has every strong Brazilian taste if you know what I mean. The sound is raw, and the production is not the worst but it is far from brilliant… but altogether it works! Guys showing us that their noise is alive, recorded and played with live energy and so on… in my opinion that is very important. I think the strongest moments in this session are ugly distorted vocals, and drums (maybe they sound too raw, but I think they fit perfectly here). From the weak moments, I can highlight the cluttered guitar… it has a good tone, but unfortunately, it is mostly hidden behind drums and vocals.
Anyway, I think this is a great return release! I bet that many gore freaks will love this mini-album!
