Today is the beginning of autumn, some people had a melancholy feeling about it, some are sad because the warm time is over, but other people starting to listen to dark and gloomy music. As you may already guess, I picked up exactly that kind of album. “Quand Bien Même L’Enfer et le Déluge S’abattraient sur Nous” is a second full-length of French blackened-crust band Pilori. I already review their previous album, but that was 2 years ago, now guys are back with brand new material! Just look at this LP, it looks fantastic! The main image is gorgeous, with so many details, and so strong atmosphere, the artist made a bloody good job here! Of course, this drawing is absolutely matching the music… this isn`t a rule, but I really love when it happens. So what da hell Pilori prepared for us?
First of all, I want to highlight that this album differs from the previous one, “Quand Bien Même” sounds more mature. I think even technically this work is more complicated. The guys did a great job in the studio, the sound and general production are awesome! Even fast black metal parts don`t sound messy, you easily can catch each instrument. On this album, boys found an excellent balance between black metal, crust, hardcore, and modern death metal. But somehow even such an extreme mix sounds bright and not stressful. Honestly, the guys did their best and everything is in its place, so I don’t see a need to describe every instrument and technical aspect of this record. Almost in all songs, you will catch very dark, melancholic, sad melodies… and that is what makes this album more interesting. For example the last song “…et le Déluge” (…and the Flood), the boys did a good choice, that is a perfect song to end this story. It has so sad and aggressive vibes… this track simply nailed me!
This is a strongly recommended album! Play it loud!
