Finally, a new album of Zombies Eat My Neighbours is out! This is long-awaited work, at least for me, and finally, I`m holding this fucking CD in my hands. This band has a pretty long history (they will celebrate their 15th anniversary this year), a huge stage experience but only a few records in the bag…
Prison Planet has an interesting cover art… Cave people which are acting like nowadays idiots with fancy smartphones, who take pictures of their food and post them on social networks. Interesting idea, differently not usual for the extreme genre. We’re not the type to break tradition, so let’s put this CD in the player, and make the volume louder!
An interesting thing, guys used an intro from an old soviet cartoon (the main character is singing about primitive times), and I think it represents today’s way of life. But let`s go back to the noise. The music of Zombies Eat My Neighbours was always unusual, guys love to mix many genres in one pot. But I have identified a couple of the main genres, it`s hardcore, thrash metal, grindcore, and a bit of punk. The whole material is bright and different… this is the strongest side of this band. Here and there are a lot of nice tempo twists… But I have some questions about productions and mixing. Guys tried to do everything by themself, and the result is, let`s say, is not so good. The guitar sound takes the lead place, then the drums (btw I love that cowbell moment), the vocal sounds cluttered as hell, same with bass guitar… I bet that in the hands of a good sound engineer this material could sound like a fucking bomb, but we have what we have.
Won’t lie, this is not the best record of Zombies Eat My Neighbours, but it is definitely worth listening to.
