Fluids / Pharmacist

Today’s review is about a super-heavy split with boys of Pharmacist (Japan) and Fluids (USA). Actually, it was only a matter of time before this split was supposed to happen. So I`m really happy to spin this boy on my turntable (thanks Lefthand Patches). Let me start with the cover and the vinyl itself. This art is fucking brutal and disgusting, holy shit! Desomorphine (crocodile) junkies with rotten hands and legs… this collage looks much worse and scarier than any of LDOH covers, haha! The vinyl has pleasant pus color with some black and white blotches. Also, there is an insert with info and that’s all, so we can end with the visual part. So here is an A-side and the first tunes of Fluids!

The US butchers are well known in the world, they have a really wide fan base, and so on. But in my case I don`t really understand why they are so popular right now))). Their sound is freaking heavy (which is tasty) but generally this is simple brutal death with a grind touch. But from the other side, this genre is not my cup of tea, even a top-notch band sounds boring forme. But I will try to be as unbiased as possible. As I said before the sound is freaking low and heavy, the same I can say about the deep and loud vocal. The guitar sound is good, but nothing outstanding. Drums have a pretty annoying sound (ala Mortician). Also, I really like that guys used some additional electronic noise in the songs, that makes these tracks more interesting. I bet that fans of brutal death will dig this noise!

Japanese kamikase Pharmacist is next on the line! I read a lot of hate about this record and I didn’t understand it. Pharmacist was always about death metal but not gore. Anyway, I really dig this session, yes it sounds different with more melodies and so on. This material reminds me of the late Carcass (before Swansong album of course). The guitar work is really impressive and interesting, but the bass is very cluttered. Screams go well with rhythm and drums. Most of the songs have good dark atmosphere, not decent, sticky and stringy but anyway it sounds nice. I won`t say that this is the best work of Pharmacist but it sound really solid!
