We have here an interesting and beautiful split of two great grind bands.
This release was pressed on a badass colored vinyl, Wise Grinds rec did its best with this record. It also has an unusual design, the main art looks different from regular grind arts… It`s even hard to find the right words to describe it. From one side they showed a werewolf from the other side oni (demon) and a poor metalhead who died (in happiness?))) Everything looks progressive (or like art-house if you want), but I think this image (with a bit of a chaotic mood) can represent the music that you will get. Because you won`t hear the clones of Napalm Dead or Brutal Truth, this is something different.
The first band is from Texas – Daggra. This is not old-school grindcore, guys use a few modern tricks in the sound and in the song structures (especially in the riffs). Plus this buzzing noise has some metal taste. But anyway this music sounds very solid and heavy. Nice riffs, and guitar tone. Also, I want to highlight a fantastic bass sound and nice vocal parts. I especially like how the drums sound, maybe there is nothing special in these blast beats, but they sound in an old and good way without special effects.
Our second band is Retortion Terror from Kyoto City (Japan). These guys bring a really chaotic atmosphere of destruction to this split. Sharp riffs and sound… It`s not too difficult to recognize the crazy style of Takafumi Matsubara. This music brutal, extreme but it has a lot of experiments. For example, the song “Judgement” has a clear woman vocal and that fits very well. Ah yes, you can hear the blast beats of Daggra`s drummer. He helped the guys on this record, but I think this is a bit different from Daggra style. On my taste, this side sounds like fresh beth of air in the genre.
