This year I discovered a new (for myself) grindcore from Italy – Eraser. This is an old school-oriented squad from Palermo. I think they started to play about 5 years ago and so far Eraser has 3 releases, not so much but guys are not Agathocles ;). Actually “Mutual Overkill Deterrence” was the first thing that I heard. To be honest, they didn`t create anything new in this genre, but they managed to combine old school with some modern tricks. Actually, this album sounds much better than looks, haha!
As I said before this is old school grinding with a flair of the new. I bet that acts like Brutal Truth and Napalm Death played a big part in creating Eraser sound. This grindcore is very punkish but it still has some metal notes, which is cool. All tracks were created according to the old school recipe, but with that extra Italian punch to it. I like how each instrument sounds, old fashioned blast beats, polka beats, and so on. The bass is not overloaded with distortion, the same with the guitar sound. Yeah, there is a couple of boring songs, but generally, this material is good!
So again, we have here an album with nice production, but the almost genre-defining disc that is well worth listening to on a regular basis.
