Depopulation Department – Life Kills

It’s always interesting to listen to new bands that consist of veterans because people with experience know the way, and they know how to deal with songwriting, sound, production, etc. Today I want to present to you a band with the members of Haemorrhage, and ex-Avulsion – Depopulation Department. I don’t want to disappoint you, but you won’t hear a grindcore or gore here, because this band is playing crust punk. But not a simple one, this band has a fire and super kicking energy in all of their songs.
Talking about artwork… Yes, this one is not original, even boring… but it’s hard to create something unique and eye-catching in this sub-genre. Anyway, the main point is the music, so let’s put aside this booklet and listen to the noise!

This mini album begins with “Bound To Destroy”, which perfectly represents the spirit of this band. Fast, buzzing with a good portion of rock’n’roll and serious lyrics. Song by song, I realized how deep these guys are in old punk. The riffs, awesome “one string” solos, classical structures and smashing d-beat. But without band members energy these would be just “another punk band”. All these people brought a part of their feelings inside “Life Kills” and that makes this album alive. I love how all vocals sound, separately and together, it’s simply great, so much protest and aggression in these screams. My favorite songs are “Wounds Of War” and “Don’t Blame The Victims”, these tracks have so much Discharge spirit inside.
So I can tell you that this debut work is totally successful and cool. If you are looking for some cheerful crust to listen to, this CD is that what you need!
