This split is a damn punch in the face. So savage, so wild and furious… I’m really glad that I got this wax to review. What am I talking about? I’m talking about a powerful split with two Australian bands, Hexx and Shitgrinder. To be honest, I’ve been tracking both bands for some years, their last releases were fantastic. It was only a question of time when both of these names would show up in one release.
Traditionally (as for grindcore release of course) this 7” has brutal photos on both sides, I especially like a decomposed body on the Hexx front. Let’s just say that the visual part totally matches the noise inside.
When the needle touched the surface, the first tunes from Hexx broke in. Swampy, unbridled, and wall breaking that how this music is. Despite raw production and messy sound, this shit has a disgusting soul. All these riffs, roars, and d-beats are honest and I really love it. This strange crust has powerful stenchcore vibes, that bring some evil atmosphere into all songs. This stuff is strongly recommended for all grind/crust lovers.
Shitgrinder is next in line. Honestly, I was stoked about their new material (especially after such a wonderful full length). And I don’t know what to say, I was really surprised when I heard this side. I listened to it again and again just to be sure that I caught everything. I must say, this is something different. All songs are very raw and noisy; it’s almost noisegrind, haha. The guitar is cluttered with drums and vocals, also there is no such speed as at their LP, so everything sounds very strange and a bit amateurish…
Rating: Hexx 8.5/10 Shitgrinder 7/10
