NEVA – Faces of Terror

It’s been a while since I’ve heard something new from a friend from St. Petersburg. It turned out that the frontman of Internal Damage was working on a new band. I was really curious about this project, I was also extremely happy to get a copy of this CD from No Bread Rec. I listened to this album a few times in a row and must say I was honestly pleased with this work. This Metal infused Punk kicked my ass. Faces of Terror is full of dark themes in the lyrics, it holds you tight with gloomy melodies in the music. Yeah, the cover art is not the strong side of this release, but anyway it looks nice.

Back to the audio questions, we have here 4 songs + an intro. These guys didn’t create something new, but when the hell did you last hear something new and innovated in punk music? This album has great production and a really nice sound. Maybe all of the songs sound a bit metallic, but I like it anyway. So you may ask why I like “Faces of Terror” so much? It’s easy to explain… Unstoppable d-beat sound so pumping, the guitar tone and buzzing riffs are so tasty. They used a few different approaches for vocals. A combination of growls, screams and (more or less) clean singing is catchy. This work isn’t boring, you can listen to it again and again, I think it’s a success. During the whole listening, I felt a dark and suffocating atmosphere, this is probably the best part of the album.
