I have a question for you – what do you know about the Greek crust scene? I bet not so much… Greek crust punk is pretty unique; it has its own taste. It’s not cheerful and fast like Swedish kind of crust or raw and aggressive like Brazilian crust, no, this kind of punk is very dark. The riffs and tempos are mostly slower than usual, the atmosphere is full of gloomy emotions. There is a lot of the bands that are using stenchcore (yep, that mystic and barbaric sub-genre) formula in their music. Χαοτικό Τέλος (Chaotic End) is that sort of band, they’ve started a ton years but I didn’t know about them until now (yeah, shame on me). Υπόσχεση (Promise) is a cool example of Greek style crust punk. It has not only dark music, but the whole design of this album is “peach black”. Damn all this photo looks scary, all elements of it are interesting: dark figure, evil clouds, and this deep depressing color – damn.
The third long play of this Greek band consists of eight battle hymns in nearly 42 minutes. Thorns – the intro song, begins with lovely atmospheric slow melodic intro. That helps to immerse the listener into right mood. “Fugitives Of Silence” continues this album with some slow moves which turns fast into cool d-beat fight. I especially like the short guitar solo in this track. This slow/fast formula repeats during whole album and that could may seem boring. To be honest, there are some stuffy moment, but I believe that`s because I didn’t dig all things that guys tried to show. Anyway sound of “Υπόσχεση” is honestly good, the mood of this piece is so dark and choking, fuck, haha! All instruments sounds very nice, more or less in classic way of crust sound.
In case you want to dig Greek crust scene, this album will became a perfect opener for you. Chaotic End will show you how they make punk in Greece!
